¿Cómo se hacen los chicles? ¿Qué masticamos?
El chicle es un polímero gomoso que se obtiene de la savia del árbol Manilkara Zapota, de la familia de las sapotáceas (llamado también "sapota" "zapotilla" o "Achras zapota") originario de México, América central y América del Sur. Por su sabor dulce y aromático, numerosos pueblos amerindios utilizaban la goma para mascar.
Hasta hace relativamente poco tiempo (prácticamente hasta los años 70) el chicle utilizaba aún esta savia como material.La mayoría de las actuales gomas de mascar emplean una base de plástico neutro, el acetato polivinílico.
